Attractions
There’s a number of special attractions and things to see at this years show. So lets take you through some of them.
Standard Gauge Train Ride Demonstrations
Take a trip on the Springwell branch line. Running down the side of the Roundhouse site, you’ll get to see things from a very different perspective while being pulled by one of the Roundhouse fleet.
Turntable Demonstrations
The central Roundhouse turntable, although not the original, has been serving the 24 roads of the Roundhouse since 1931. During the show, it will be shown off, once again rotating a selected loco for the event.
Signal Box Tours
Visitors to the show can head across the yard to the Signal Box, to see the marvellous workings of signalling, points and lots of rodding. With a great view across the yard.
Deltic Preservation Society
The Deltic Preservation Society is based at the Barrow Hill Roundhouse, and will have their own shed open during the show, allowing visitors to have a look at the fleet of locomotives they have stabled.
Steam Roller
The resident Aveling Porter 5hp compound steam roller, Old Faithful, will be in steam during the show. This 14 ton beast first rolled along roads in and around Litchfield, Staffordshire under the County Council’s ownership. It then spent some time with Mr Joseph Kitchen in Saxilby Lincolnshire before ending up working on the Doncaster bypass in 1958.
Having been purchased by it’s current owner in 1992, it’s been fully rebuilt and looking as good as new.
The latest step in the life of this 1916 built steam roller, will be testing the latest development in bio fuel from Green Dragon. Produced in North Nottinghamshire and made from the by-product of rape seed oil process. These solid biofuel lumps will be tested on the roller during the show, avoiding the use of coal imported all the way from Columbia!

Is it one, or two railways? Well it does have two names but then so does Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, another famous duo from Yorkshire. So what’s the story then with this layout duo? Well, these are two Yorkshire Group layouts that both started out as their own separate layouts, but as time has […]
A new layout is being created by Yorkshire Group members, which will be debuted at the Yorkshire Garden Railway Show 2026! More information coming soon!
The Llantaliog Valley Railway is built to 16mm Scale on 32mm Track. It runs a combination of Live Steam Gas Powered locomotives and battery driven Diesel outline locomotives; some are radio-controlled others free running. The layout is a single-track oval, with a loop and three-track fiddle yard and two short sidings. It is based upon […]

- Recent YGRS Attendance: 2024, 2025, 2026
Rhydypenderyn is a fully scenic layout and represents a small Welsh station set in the early twentieth century. It is not based on any particular location but is characteristic of many rural stations of the period. The 32mm trackwork is hand built using brass rail pinned to wooden sleepers. All pointwork is operated by rod […]

2025 Show
We once again held our show at the Barrow Hill Roundhouse this year, with layouts and traders nestled amongst the many standard gauge locos which call the Roundhouse home.
2025 was a very special year for railways, being 200 years since the first passenger steam train ran on the Stockton to Darlington Railway. We held our show on the very day this 200 years was reached, so it was only fitting to put on our own celebration of this event. Have a look at our Railway 200 Cavalcade report below to see how we did.
We had a great selection of layouts attend this year. Not only Yorkshire based ones, but also much further afield too. Each showing off the different approaches you can make in our hobby.
We also had lots of traders showcasing their products or services, covering pretty much everything you need. There’s nothing like getting hands on or up close to things before deciding what you need. Especially when many traders are also garden railway owners themselves, so can give you real advice on how they have used or developed their own products for use.
And of course with the show being held at the Roundhouse museum, your show entry also got you access to everything Barrow Hill has to offer. With lots taking rides down the Springwell Branch Railway, or looking around the site’s signal box on one of the organised tours. We even had Old Faithful, the resident steam roller, rumbling up and down the yard. Running, not on imported coal, but a new biofuel which is currently being tested for UK heritage steam engines.
Photos
Here’s a great selection of photos from this years event, showing locos large and small.
Thank you to Dave Webb and Paul Varey for these great photos from the show.
Videos
There was also a number of visitors to the show recording their experience of the show, or just some of the layout action so that those unable to attend can enjoy it from afar. Thank you to those who do this as not everyone can attend but your videos mean they don’t have to miss out.

Railway 200
The 27th September 2025 marked exactly 200 years since the first steam passenger railway journey took place, on the Stockton and Darlington Railway. We wanted to celebrate this milestone by showing how our own locos are part of this 200 years of railway history.
So we organised a 200 wheel live steam cavalcade on our Mount Dowd layout at 12:30. Running 20+ live steam models on a layout at the same time took a fairly large amount of organising. Making sure everyone could steam up and get out of the siding and on to the three running lines.
With a fair bit of ‘Woah’ and ‘Go’, and the occasional ‘Stop!’ from many Yorkshire members who signed up for this feat, we managed it! Over 200 wheels (We’re still debating who was meant to do the official count) we did it! From the crowds around the layout, I think we can safely say we put on a good show for all those who attended. I’m not sure even Barrow Hill in it’s heyday would have seen this many locos in steam.
Just after 13:00, with locos heading back to the sidings there was a collective sigh of relief from many Yorkshire Members. Their loco had performed when it needed too.
