Rhydypenderyn

Rhydypenderyn is a fully scenic layout and represents a small Welsh station set in the early twentieth century. It is not based on any particular location but is characteristic of many rural stations of the period. The 32mm trackwork is hand built using brass rail pinned to wooden sleepers. All pointwork is operated by rod and lever and is interlinked where necessary. There are several buildings on the layout, again all hand built. These include a small station and engine shed as well as a cottage and chapel typical of the area. We run a wide variety of locos on the layout: most are live steam, often of unusual prototypes and are mainly scratch built.

The layout was built by Tony and Gaynor Bird and completed in 2006. Ted Burdge, Richard Cable and I (Paul Howard) were regular runners on the layout at shows throughout the country so when Tony decided to built a smaller layout for ease of touring, the three of us jointly purchased it from him. It is now stored in the York area and continues to be exhibited at three or four shows every year.
