The West Lancashire Light Railway had four engines in steam, sharing turns on both the passenger service and demonstration goods workings. Two locomotives, Montalban and Sybil, were from the home fleet and two engines, Marchlyn and Cegin, were visiting from Statfold Barn Railway. Montalban originally worked at coal mines in Spain, Sybil was built for Dinorwic quarry and the visiting locomotives both worked at Penrhyn quarry.
