Our season opening event, the New Year Steam Up has just been held, once again in the Grenoside Community Hall near Sheffield. Despite the dire weather warnings and heavy snow the day before on the day it turned out clear and sunny. Just over fifty members attended to run on the Group’s two layouts set up in the Community Hall bringing with them the usual eclectic mix of rolling stock.
Enjoying running in the warm, members were fortified with tea and biscuits during the day and fish and chips for lunch.
As usual the NYSU can only go ahead with a small team of volunteers who organise the event, deliver the layout trailers, set up the layouts, do the fish and chip run and at the end of the day pack it all away. This year made more challenging with a snow and icebound car park.
