Heywood Bridge

This layout is inspired by the 15” gauge Duffield Bank Railway constructed by Sir Arthur Heywood at his residence just a few miles north of Derby.  The original DBR was a pioneering minimum-gauge estate railway, built to move estate goods and carry passengers when needed.  Construction started in 1874.

The layout is built to a scale of 1” to 1 foot and, at this scale, the 32mm gauge track is correct-to-scale for 15” gauge track.  The layout features a model of the passenger shelter built for the tennis ground station on the DBR, as well as one of the wooden bridges built to carry the original line over a hillside ravine.  Trains are hauled by 1/12th scale models of locomotives deigned and built by Sir Arthur, as well as be vintage clockwork and steam locos by Basset Lowke.
