“Harrogate” Southgate Light Railway

The Harrogate Gasworks Railway was built to 2 ft gauge and ran between Bilton Junction and the Harrogate Gas Works at New Park. Opened in 1908 the railway carried coal to the works and in 1956 closed to traffic. The railway had tight gauge restrictions in the tunnel at New Park hence the reduced cab height.
