Newdigate Garden Railway - building on a slope!!

The garden slopes two ways; from back to front and from side to side.  The highest point was six feet higher than the patio level.

I therefore decided to terrace the garden with a central terrace,on which most of the line runs, about 30 inches above the patio level.  The terracing was done using concrete paving slabs set on end in big lumps of concrete.

The track was laid on a cast concrete base formed inside the paving slabs.  This involved a lot of earth moving!!

Having a slope enabled a steaming up area at "back-friendly" height.  This area is reached by a girder bridge made from pvc garden centre trellis.
